Wa Say U and Mi Mi Sun

Wa Say U and Mi Mi Sun:  Young couple who attended Judah’s church in Wireless and now have a house church two hours away in Community #5 in Bago.  This is the only church in the community.  Mi Mi Sun was sponsored by Judah when she went to Bible College.  Wa Say U made a commitment to God to serve somewhere people do not know God.  Bago has a population of around 2,000 and they are the first church in the area.  They have about 30 members in their church.  Every Christmas they host a celebration with singing, preaching, and food.  About 300 people attend the celebration.  They need help in preparing food for the 300 people and other preparations for the celebration so they often ask others in the area to help who are Buddhist.  As they serve together preparing for the Christmas celebration they share the Good News with those helping.  Wa Say U and Mi Mi Sun build relationships with people in the community through service.  If a family is too poor to send their child to school the church will help with the fees so the children can go to school.  As they earn the trust of the people in their community they share the Gospel with them.  They will often prepare meals for monks in the community.  The meals must be prepared early because monks are not permitted to eat after 11:00 am.

Mi Mi Sun’s testimony:  She was an atheist who grew up hating Christians because of the hypocrisy she witnessed in her mother’s life.  Her mother professed to be a Christian but drank alcohol excessively.  Her father was Buddhist.  Her mother would make her attend Judah’s church.  When Judah would show up to their home in his truck to give them a ride to church, along with other families, she would run away so she did not have to go.  One Sunday while attending church when she was 16 years old she met a guest pastor who came to the church.  As she was leaving the service the pastor told her, “See you in heaven.”  That grabbed her attention and she started asking questions about becoming a Christian as she started to feel guilty about her hatred towards Christians.  She started praying for strength.  God granted her the strength to stand up and profess Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Mi Mi Sun’s parents soon divorced.  Her mother remarried, but her father did not.  Her father became very lonely and depressed.  Then a miracle occurred.  Her father is a soldier and had an eye problem requiring surgery. The surgery is very expensive and her father could not afford to have the procedure done.  Even though her father was Buddhist, Mi Mi Sun encouraged him to pray to God with her for the money for the surgery.  One day her father’s superior officer, who is well known for being very frugal with money, approached her father and gave him enough money for the surgery.  The officer was not aware of her father’s eye problem or the need for surgery.  At that moment, Mi Mi Sun’s father accepted Christ.  Her father is now remarried to a Christian woman.

Mi Mi Sun’s vision of a “new generation”:  She is praying to be able to start a preschool in Bago.  In the preschool she would like to teach English as well as the Gospel.  It is difficult for people to find a good job without knowing English.  It is illegal to build a church in Myanmar so the “preschool” would double as the church.  The school would go year round so during the three month break from the government or Buddhist schools young children could attend the school.  The school would be offered to the community free of charge if possible.  The building would also be used to train youth in music.  They would like to get more youth involved in the church through music.  They currently have one guitar and would like to purchase 5-7 more.

Wa Say U and Mi Mi Sun’s prayer request:  They would like to purchase the property next door to their house for 2,000,000 kyats ($2,500 US) to have the preschool.  There is already a structure on the land which could be used for the preschool/church until a bigger building could be built.  Mi Mi Sun would be one of two teachers; a second teacher would need to be hired.  Wells tend to go dry in the Bago area during the summer so they would like to add a new, deeper, larger well to the property which could be used to share water with the community.  This would also require a generator to run the pump

*Update – Money required for the purchase of the property has been raised and hand delivered to Wa Say U and Mi Mi Sun in March, 2012
