Update: Earthquake In Morisseau, Haiti

Thank you for the consistent donations given to Mission Morrisseau. The latest updates show the death toll from this month’s magnitude 7.2 earthquake has grown to 2,207, with 344 people still missing. 12,268 people were injured and nearly 53,000 houses were destroyed by the August 14th quake. With a heavy heart, we want to let you know that we lost two children from our Morrisseau community–and 9-year old boy and a young girl. We are grieving with them during this time of great loss and uncertainty.

The epicenter of the quake was close to our school, so the damage was significant. As you can tell from some of the photos, the buildings in the school and church sustained significant damage. POW was able to wire the money needed to purchase tarps to protect the buildings, as well as rice and oil. Please see the photos of the supplies being passed out as well as some pictures of our campus, now protected by the tarps until permanent repairs can be made.

We will continue to update you on our mission as more needs become apparent. There will need to be some analysis of the building’s structural integrity, and then we will know what else we can do to help. As always, we appreciate your support and prayers–as do our friends in Morrisseau. Thank you!
